A regional crime lab contacted MRT Range looking for a safe, controlled environment for firearms testing, ballistic investigation, and evidence-related shooting analysis. Their team needed a reliable solution that would allow investigators and technicians to conduct year-round firearms testing without relying on outdoor ranges or shared facilities. They also required a system that could provide consistent shooting conditions, enhanced safety, reduced noise, and proper air filtration to support investigative work while protecting personnel and surrounding areas.

MRT Range provided the customer with a 40’ Groundhog turnkey shooting range solution designed specifically for professional firearms testing and investigative use. The Groundhog delivers a fully enclosed ballistic steel shooting environment utilizing a 7.62x51mm 149 grain, M80 FMJ tested steel envelope for maximum safety and durability.

The range includes an Industry Leading particle filtration system with 99.99% efficiency at 0.3 microns and a fully enclosed design, helping maintain cleaner air quality for investigators and technicians during extended testing sessions. Acoustic sound attenuation reduces exterior sound levels to approximately 76 dB, allowing the facility to operate with minimal disruption to surrounding operations.

The integrated sloped rubber berm bullet trap system reduces lead fragmentation and simplifies maintenance for evidence testing and repeatable firearms evaluations. The range also includes a mini split heating and air conditioning system, electronic locking system, sealed interior flooring, and fully enclosed weather-resistant construction for dependable year-round operation.

Because the Groundhog operates on a Single Phase 50 Amp 208/220 RV-style power connection, installation requirements were significantly simpler and more cost-effective compared to traditional ranges requiring expensive 3-phase power infrastructure. The final result provided the crime lab with a dedicated, professional firearms testing facility that improved operational efficiency, investigator safety, and testing consistency.
