A firearms manufacturer contacted MRT Range looking for a dedicated solution for firearms testing, product development, quality control, and demonstration purposes. Their team needed a reliable indoor testing environment that would allow engineers, technicians, and staff to conduct year-round firearm evaluations in a controlled setting without relying on off-site facilities or weather-dependent outdoor ranges. They also required a solution that could support rapid testing cycles, improve safety, reduce operational downtime, and provide consistent shooting conditions for research and development activities.

MRT Range provided the customer with a 53’ Groundhog turnkey shooting range solution engineered to support professional firearms testing and manufacturing operations. The Groundhog delivers a fully enclosed ballistic steel shooting environment utilizing ballistic steel that is 7.62x51mm 149 grain, M80 FMJ tested, providing enhanced safety and long-term durability for continuous use.

The range includes an Industry Leading particle filtration system with 99.99% efficiency at 0.3 microns and a fully enclosed design, helping maintain cleaner air quality for employees and testing personnel during extended firing sessions. Advanced acoustic sound attenuation reduces exterior sound levels to approximately 76 dB, minimizing disruption to surrounding operations and improving the overall work environment.

The integrated sloped rubber berm bullet trap system reduces lead fragmentation and simplifies maintenance while supporting high-volume firearms testing. The range also includes Caliber Target Retrieval Systems for efficient and repeatable target operation, a mini split heating and air conditioning system for year-round climate control, electronic locking systems for enhanced security, sealed rubber flooring for durability and ease of maintenance, and a fully enclosed insulated structure designed for dependable operation.

Because the 53’ Groundhog utilizes a Single Phase 50 Amp 208/220 RV-style power connection, the manufacturer avoided the higher installation costs and infrastructure requirements commonly associated with traditional indoor ranges requiring 3-phase power. The modular design also allowed for significantly faster deployment compared to conventional construction methods.
